The ATP’s year-end showcase headed to Houston’s Westside Tennis Club in 2004.

Top-ranked Roger Federer, who won three Grand Slams earlier in the year, capped another outstanding season with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Lleyton Hewitt in the Masters Cup final. It was Federer’s 11th tournament win of the season.

The highlight of the tournament, though, was an epic tiebreak between Federer and Russia’s Marat Safin. Federer won the first set and the second set tiebreaker lasted an astounding 26 minutes. Federer finally won 20-18 to take the match two sets to none.
