The Kansas City Royals advanced to their first World Series in 1980, in the process exorcising their demons from the Bronx.
The Royals swept the New York Yankees 3-0 — the same Yankees that had eliminated Kansas City in three consecutive ALCS from 1976-78. The Royals won the first two games at home and then rallied to win Game 3 at Yankee Stadium 4-2. Frank White was named series MVP.
Kansas City fell to the Philadelphia Phillies in six games in the World Series.
