The USA Olympic Basketball Team tips off in Rio tonight but there was one team of American stars that never got that chance.

The 1980 version of Team USA was stacked with future NBA players such as Mark Aguirre, Rolando Blackman, Isiah Thomas, Darnell Valentine and Buck Williams. But due to President Carter’s boycott of the 1980 Olympics, those players never traveled to Moscow. Instead they played a series of exhibition games, including this game against Team USA 1976 at the Greensboro Coliseum.

The cover art for this program was illustrated by Lamar Sparkman, the longtime Tampa Tribune cartoonist who also designed the original Tampa Bay Buccaneers logo.
