The Atlanta Falcons made their NFL debut 50 years ago, losing their first nine games before rebounding to win three of their last five to finish 3-11 in the Eastern Conference. Linebacker Tommy Nobis, the top pick in the NFL Draft, earned Rookie of the Year honors and went to the Pro Bowl.

The Falcons are set to move into futuristic Mercedes-Benz Stadium next year but in 1966, Atlanta Stadium was considered state of the art. The multi-purpose venue (also home to the Braves) was torn down after the 1996 Olympic Games.
