ESPN didn’t quite have “all the names” and “all the games” when this program ad ran in an 1985 NCAA Tournament program but the network was getting close. The previous year, ABC had purchased ESPN from Getty Oil. In 1987, ESPN would air NFL games for the first time; MLB games followed three years later.

The Worldwide Leader has broadcast rights to pretty much everything now…save NHL and NASCAR (for the time being). But it’s fun to look back on the days when it hooked our interest on 24-hour sports with a unique lineup of events.
