Look away, Gator fans…

The 1996 Fiesta Bowl featured the top two teams in the country and both No. 1 Nebraska and No. 2 Florida entered the game undefeated. Riding the nation’s best ground attack, Tom Osborne’s Cornhuskers were looking for a second consecutive national championship. Meanwhile, Steve Spurrier’s Gators, whose passing attack confounded the SEC, were seeking their first title.

Florida actually led 10-6 at the end of the first quarter. Nebraska led 35-10 at the half. It only got worse from there as the ‘Huskers rushed for 524 yards en route to a dominant 62-24 win. Florida would finally secure that elusive national championship the following season, while Osborne would get his third (a shared crown) the year after that.
